7-23-20 THOUGHTS

Sometimes we consider least that which is most familiar?  Following is what Jesus chose first as he began his teaching.  It is CHARACTER teaching.  It tells a  man how to be blessed.  Blessed here is a happiness that does not come from circumstance, BUT RATHER FROM BEING!  The pieces of CHARACTER enjoined here are different.  Each is a part of a whole idea...  They are what I SHOULD BE AS A CHRISTIAN!  We need to read this several times.  I must EXAMINE ME as I read.

Matt 5:3-12    "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4  "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. 5  "Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth. 6  "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. 7  "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. 8  "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. 9  "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. 10  "Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11  "Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. 12  "Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Jesus ends this chapter with
Matt 5:48   "Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
This is not  “without sin perfect”  but more   “mature perfect”.
1Pet 1:16        because it is written, "YOU SHALL BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY."
A reading of 2Pet 1:1-11 would go well here.
May your day be blessed as you think on these things.

My Prayer:
Our Father in heaven, we lift up your name and exalt you to the highest place.  Help us to be as you want us to be.  Teach us to develop the character you desire in your children.  Bless us with your promises as we absorb your nature.  We desire to be partakers of your divine nature.  Give us eternity with you Oh God.

In the name of Jesus           Amen
